Fear Is A Liar

by Erin Livingston

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

II Timothy 1:7

Fear can be crippling. Have you ever felt that? Where fear torments you uncontrollably?

A few weeks ago, my sister was having trouble going to sleep. When she would lie down, little concerns in her life would cause a sudden fear. The enemy would cause these small concerns to become magnified in her mind. Because of this, she could think of nothing else. Fear had such a hold on her that sleep would not come. The solution to this problem came from an unlikely source. We babysit a three-year-old boy, who one day out of the blue said, “I’ve got a big God.” One night, after hearing him say this when my sister went to bed, she felt the fear coming and remembered what the little boy had said. She repeated it to herself until she could think past the fear and pray! Thankfully, she has not had a problem since that night. Hallelujah!

Psalm 56:3-4 says, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.” The definition of trust is “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.” God is reliable, He is Truth, He has the ability to do anything, and He is our strength. All we have to do is trust in Him. All we must do is praise Him and remember that we have “got a BIG GOD!”

Sometimes, I have to see something for me to understand, so if it helps you, visualize God coming and physically crushing your fear with His hand.

We serve a big God that has a powerful name! Whenever we are afraid, just call on Him. Psalm 145:18 states, “The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” All we have to do is say, “Jesus,” and He will be there!

I used to have panic attacks in my sleep. They would rob me of my peace. I would be so afraid that I could not even go back to sleep; however, I would call on Jesus’ name over and over again. And He would give me the peace and comfort to go back to sleep!

Jeremiah 10:6 states, “Forasmuch as [there is] none like unto thee, O LORD; thou [art] great, and thy name [is] great in might.” The Lord’s name is powerful. If you are afraid, just call on His name. The Bible also states in Luke 10:17, “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” All evil and darkness are subject to Jesus’ name (Praise the Lord!).

Christ’s name is so powerful that by IT men are saved, demons will flee, and people are healed!

Philippians 2:9-11, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

God is so powerful that He will come and wrap you in His love and cause all fear to leave you. It does not just apply to fear when you are going to sleep or fear that wakes you from your sleep. Maybe you are afraid of going to school because you will get picked on, or hurting your husband’s/dad’s ministry, or being a godly parent/example. The list could go on and on, but the solution to all is the same – Jesus!

Just remember that you serve a BIG GOD!

He will calm all your fears and help you through. Just call on His powerful name, and He will be right beside you.

There are 32 verses about not fearing and 34 verses about peace in the Bible. That means we can have at least one verse a day in each month to remind us that we can have true peace from God and do not have to fear. Do not let fear control your life. Hold onto God and His Word and let Him give you joy!
