Embracing the Journey

by Shayla Asselin

Have you ever felt stuck in a season of life? Whether it's a vibrant spring of new beginnings, a scorching summer of challenges, a colorful autumn of harvest and growth, or a quiet winter of introspection, each phase of our lives holds unique beauty and purpose.

Sometimes, though, we forget this. We yearn for the next season, wishing away the present one, forgetting that the journey itself is a gift, a path paved with lessons and blessings.

As Christian women, we know that God doesn't waste a single moment. He weaves His tapestry in our lives, using every thread, every tear, every triumph to create a masterpiece. But how do we truly embrace the journey, not just endure it?

Here are four reminders to guide us:

  1. Remember, God is with you, always. "And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed." (Deuteronomy 31:8) No matter the season, God is our constant companion. He walks beside us, offering strength, comfort, and guidance. Lean into His presence, find solace in His word, and trust that He is leading you.

  2. Each season has its purpose. " For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Even the difficult seasons hold purpose. They refine our faith, build our resilience, and deepen our connection with God. Trust that He is using this time to prepare you for something beautiful.

  3. Seek out the lessons. "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." (Psalm 32:8) Every season offers lessons. Look for the opportunities to learn and grow, even in the midst of pain. What is God teaching you about yourself, about Him, about the world? Open your heart and mind to receive His wisdom.

  4. Find joy in the present moment. "Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;" (Romans 12:12) Don't let the longing for the next season steal the joy of the present. Embrace the unique beauty of each day, the quiet moments, the laughter shared, the lessons learned. Thank God for the gifts He has placed in your hands, right now.

In each season, let's cultivate these practices:

  • Gratitude: Find something to be thankful for, no matter how small. A steaming cup of tea, a child's laughter, the strength to face a challenging day – these are all gifts from God.

  • Surrender: Release control, trust that God has a plan, and allow Him to navigate your path. Open your heart to surprises and unexpected blessings.

  • Growth: Embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Each twist and turn, each joy and sorrow, shapes us into who we are meant to be.

  • Fellowship: Walk hand-in-hand with other sisters. Offer support, share wisdom, and learn from each other's journeys. Together, we are stronger.

Friends, let's walk hand-in-hand through each season, embracing the journey with open hearts and trusting spirits. Remember, the destination is not the only thing that matters; the path itself is a sacred walk with our loving God. I pray you find hope, peace, and joy in every chapter of your remarkable journey. Let's shed our fast-forward button and find grace in the unfolding portrait of every season, for God paints miracles even in the brushstrokes of our present.
