...but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
I Kings 19: 11-12
Does the enemy whisper about your sinful past?
“𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘭?”
He’ll drawl out as you’re trying to pray.
“𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦? 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘥𝘰.”
The accuser will mock.
It’s his oldest trick: deceit.
Trying to get you to doubt your salvation,
to destroy your relationship with the Savior.
He’ll push, and push, and push until you fall into the pit.
The pit of anxiety, despair, and guilt over things of the past.
But do you know that Jesus whispers, too?
“ꜰᴇᴀʀ ɴᴏᴛ, ꜰᴏʀ ɪ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ʀᴇᴅᴇᴇᴍᴇᴅ ʏᴏᴜ.”
His tender voice will caress your shaking heart.
“ɪ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴄᴀʟʟᴇᴅ ʏᴏᴜ ʙʏ ʏᴏᴜʀ ɴᴀᴍᴇ. ʏᴏᴜ ᴀʀᴇ ᴍɪɴᴇ.”
Though a whisper, it is sure and unfailing.
“ɪ ᴄᴀꜱᴛ ʏᴏᴜʀ ꜱɪɴꜱ ᴀꜱ ꜰᴀʀ ᴀꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇᴀꜱᴛ ɪꜱ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴇꜱᴛ, ᴀɴᴅ ɪ ʀᴇᴍᴇᴍʙᴇʀ ᴛʜᴇᴍ ɴᴏ ᴍᴏʀᴇ.”
With only a few words, He has stopped the accuser in his tracks.
But He will go even further for you.
“ɪ ᴡɪʟʟ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ᴀ ᴡᴀʏ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡɪʟᴅᴇʀɴᴇꜱꜱ, ᴀɴᴅ ʀɪᴠᴇʀꜱ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴅᴇꜱᴇʀᴛ.”
When there is no way, He will create a way.
When drowning in the pit, He’ll teach you how to swim.
And when you emerge, He’ll turn your pit into the blessing of experience.
And with that experience, you now have the tools to teach another.
So you see, the devil might try to bring you down by whispering about the past, but you can shout back that our God is a waymaker!
